CHARLESTON, S.C. (February 28, 2020) – Spectrum Paint Company has announced the opening of its newest location in West Ashley, 2467 Savannah Highway, Charleston, SC, on Monday, March 2nd. This is Spectrum’s sixth location in the Low Country with the other five being in Johns Island, Summerville, North Mt. Pleasant, Mt. Pleasant and Downtown. “We are excited about serving our customers with a new location in West Ashley” said Travis Detter, Spectrum Paint president. “Many of our employees have been serving this region in the paint business for decades. Spectrum Paint acquires Fayetteville, NC’s Cumberland Paint & Wallpaper
Spectrum Paint has acquired the assets of Cumberland Paint & Wallpaper, 198 Forsythe St, Fayetteville, NC 28303. The store opened as Spectrum Paint on Wednesday, January 2nd, 2019. Cumberland Paint started in 1962 and was purchased by Clay Thomas in 1968. Norman Thomas joined his father in business in 1973. Norman has served the paint industry for over 45 years and served as president of the Paint & Decorating Retailers Association. He held PDRA training seminars all over the United States Canada and Australia. Spectrum Paint president, Travis Detter, attended one of these such trainings in the past. “My father and I have known the Thomas family for almost thirty years and they will be welcome around the store any time even though Norman is looking forward to retirement,” said Detter. “We will now operate 10 stores in North Carolina and 30 stores in Virginia and the Carolinas. Spectrum Paint Reaches Agreement with ColorWorks in Topeka
TOPEKA, KS (November 30, 2017) – Spectrum Paint Company has reached an agreement to purchase the assets of ColorWorks Paint & Supply in Topeka, Kan. The store will be opening as Spectrum Paint in a new location in January of 2018. The new location address is to be announced at a later date. “This is a strategic location between our current Lawrence and Manhattan locations” said Travis Detter, Spectrum Paint president. “We are excited about our continued growth both in northeast Kansas and in all of the regions which we serve. We’re looking forward to serving the Topeka community.”

Spectrum Paint Acquires Clayton Paint Company in The Triangle
RALEIGH, N.C. (June 30, 2017) – Spectrum Paint Company has acquired the assets of Clayton Paint Company at 367 W. Main Street in Clayton, N.C. The store will open as Spectrum Paint on Monday, July 3rd. “We are excited about expanding our North Carolina presence into the Triangle area,” said Travis Detter, Spectrum Paint president. “We are currently working on opening our East Coast Distribution Center in Raleigh in the next few months as well as open more surrounding stores in the coming year.”

The Clayton addition will be the sixth North Carolina and 71st Spectrum location. Spectrum will be keeping the Benjamin Moore Paints and PPG Paints product lines. Spectrum Announcement: Springfield, Branson, Florence
TULSA, Okla. (April 10, 2017) – Spectrum Paint Company has acquired the assets of the PPG Springfield, Missouri location and will begin servicing the market with two locations in Springfield beginning April 10th, 2017. Spectrum has also acquired the inventory of the PPG location in Branson, Missouri. Spectrum will consolidate the Branson locations into our current facility. The existing PPG location in Branson is closed as of Saturday, April 8th. Lastly, PPG is acquiring the assets of Spectrum’s Florence, South Carolina location. This location will operate as PPG Paints as of April 17th. All PPG and Spectrum employees will be or have been offered employment opportunities.
Spectrum has worked together with PPG in these two key areas where each company has a greater presence over the other. Spectrum is confident that they will be able to better serve customers in these markets by making these changes. Spectrum will be keeping a wide array of the PPG products that customers are accustomed to purchasing . In addition, they will be adding their own “Spectrum” products as well as products from other manufacturers distributed by Spectrum Paint Company.
Spectrum Paint Open in Manhattan, Kansas
MANHATTAN, Kan. (October 2, 2016) – Spectrum Paint Company has acquired the assets of The Paint Bucket, 618 Fort Riley Blvd., in Manhattan, Kansas. The store will open as Spectrum Paint on Monday, October 2nd. The Paint Bucket’s store history can be traced back to the 1950’s in downtown Manhattan. Jim Lumb and his wife Sandy purchased the store from Manhattan Carpet and Interiors in 1995 after having worked for the parent company for ten years. Jim will remain as an employee of Spectrum Paint.

Spectrum Paint Grows with Virginia Paint Stores
RICHMOND, Va. (Feb. 1, 2016) – Spectrum Paint East, LLC. has acquired the assets of Benjamin Moore’s Virginia Paint and Decorating Centers. The 11 stores are located primarily around the Richmond and Tidewater region with additional locations in Williamsburg, Fredericksburg and just outside of Lynchburg in the town of Forest. These stores have been owned by Benjamin Moore for approximately 15 years, but have been in existence since 1954.
The stores open as Spectrum Paint on Monday, Feb. 1st, 2016. They will continue to carry quality Benjamin Moore Paints. In addition, Spectrum will add PPG Pittsburgh Paints, their own brands, SPEC-PRO and SPEC-ONE, and additional lacquers, stains and specialty coatings from other manufacturers. Spectrum celebrates 30 years in business on Feb. 3rd, 2016.

Spectrum Paint Opens New Location in Claremore
CLAREMORE, Okla. (October 3, 2013) – Spectrum Paint Company will open its newest store in Claremore, 1301 W Country Club Rd next to B&B Theatres, on Monday, October 7th, 2013. The paint store for commercial, industrial and residential professionals and do-it-yourselfers will carry Benjamin Moore Paints, PPG Pittsburgh Paints, SPEC-ONE and SPEC-PRO products. This makes Spectrum’s 14th store in Oklahoma and 37th store overall.
Spectrum Paint is no stranger to Claremore as owners Travis Detter, John Detter and Roddy Russo are long-time Claremore residents. “Spectrum has been focused on serving larger markets and recent growth has been due to acquisitions of other paint companies,” said Travis. “We’ve been asked by friends and family for a long time to open a store in Claremore and feel like now is the right time. Spectrum Paint Opens New Location in Murrells Inlet
MURRELLS INLET, S.C. (April 8, 2013) – Spectrum Paint Company will open its newest store in Murrells Inlet, 4440 Highway 17 Bypass South, on Monday, April 8th. The paint store for commercial, industrial and residential professionals and do-it-yourselfers will carry Benjamin Moore Paint and Glidden Professional products. This makes Spectrum’s third store on the Grand Strand and 36th store overall.
“We acquired our first store in Myrtle Beach in January of 2012 and it has been extremely successful. Along with our store in North Myrtle Beach, the Murrells Inlet addition will allow us to better serve our customers along the Grand Strand,” said Travis Detter, Spectrum Paint president.

Spectrum Paint Opens in Lawton
TULSA, Okla. (October 1st, 2012) – Spectrum Paint Company has purchased the assets of Sohl Paint, 1010 Southwest B Avenue in Lawton, Oklahoma. The store will be operating as Spectrum Paint on October 1st, 2012. This makes Spectrum’s 12th new store opening this year after purchasing 11 stores along the coastal Carolinas in February and April.
“We have always wanted a store in Lawton, but the opportunity hadn’t presented itself until now,” said Travis Detter, Spectrum president. “Lawton is a great community and we are looking forward to building relationships and serving the area.”
Spectrum will continue to carry Benjamin Moore and Coronado products. In addition, PPG Pittsburgh Paints and SPEC-PRO products will be introduced to the area.

TULSA, Okla. (July 2, 2012) – Spectrum Paint Company has purchased the assets of Ocean Paint, 1502 HWY 17 South in North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. The store will open as Spectrum on July 6th, 2012. This makes Spectrum’s second location in the Grand Strand with a store currently located at 1203 Third Avenue South in Myrtle Beach.

(April 12, 2012) – Spectrum Paint Company has purchased the assets of Lord & Evans Paints of Charleston, South Carolina. “Lord & Evans has been preserving the historical coatings of the Lowcountry’s treasured homes and buildings since the company was founded as Wm. M. Bird & Co. in 1865.”
The addition will bring the company’s store number to 10 in the coastal Carolinas and 33 overall, making it one of the largest paint retailers/wholesalers in the nation.
TULSA, Okla. (January 5th, 2012) – Spectrum Paint Company has announced an agreement to purchase the assets of C & S Paint Center of the coastal region of North and South Carolina. C & S currently operates 7 outlets which distribute Devoe Coatings and Glidden Professional Paints. The stores are scheduled to open as Spectrum locations on Febrary 1st, 2012.
“Ron Choate and his staff at C & S have developed an excellent reputation,” said Travis Detter, Spectrum Paint president. “We hope to learn from each other and are happy to have Ron serve as regional manager as we continue to grow in this area. Our intentions are to staff the locations with current employees of C & S Paint.”
Spectrum Paint and C & S have been active members of Allpro Corporation, the largest association of paint dealers in North America. Choate has served as president of the board, and Detter is the current president.
